Sumitomo establishes US oligonucleotides business

Sumitomo Chemical has established a new company for its oligonucleotide CDMO business in the US. Sumitomo Chemical Advanced Medical Solutions America (SC-AMSA) will be based in Marlborough, Massachusetts, and plans to begin providing samples to customers by August.

The company is increasingly focused on long-chain (around 100 mer) oligonucleotides called gRNA for genome editing therapy. It established a plant at its Oita Works in Japan that started shipments to multiple customers began in fiscal 2024.
