Merck KGaA is to invest over €70 million to build its new Advanced Materials Development Centre (AMDC) at Shizuoka, Japan. This will bring the firm’s investment at the site, which also houses its Patterning Centre of Excellence, to over €120 million since 2021. It is expected to begin operations in 2026.

The AMDC, Merck said, “will enable the development of cutting-edge solutions for the latest semiconductor nodes and innovative materials that meet stringent environmental standards”. The focus is on advanced materials and technologies, such as extreme ultra violet and directed self-assembly. Features will include a 5,500 m2 facility with advanced cleanrooms and laboratories.
