Nouryon, Ineos break ground
Nouryon and Ineos Nitriles have broken ground on new facilities that will be built at the latter’s site in Cologne, Germany, and completed in 2021 or 2022. The two companies already have a similar partnership between at their adjacent facilities in Lima, Ohio.
Ineos will operate and maintain the facilities, which will supply acrylonitrile raw materials for Nouryon’s biodegradable chelates. These are used in detergents and other home and personal care applications. Nouryon said that demand for these has grown strongly following the European ban on phosphates in automatic dishwasher detergents for consumers.
Ineos Nitriles is the world’s largest producer of acrylonitrile, which is also used in the automotive, home appliance, garment, carbon fibre and water purification sectors; Nouryon produces chelates in all three main regional markets and completed its latest facilities at Ningbo, China, in 2016.
