Over the past decades, the discussion regarding climate change has shifted from estimated potential outcomes to far more urgent concerns regarding the reduction of its immediate adverse effects. Rising sea levels, coastline erosion and extreme weather events result directly from anthropogenic activities affecting global climate patterns.

Storm-damaged BioLab plant to be rebuilt

Alongside Governor John Bel Edwards, BioLab has announced a $170 million investment to build a new chlorine product facility in Westlake, Louisiana. Due to be completed in May 2022, it will create 82 direct jobs and an estimated 231 indirect ones, while facilitating the retention of 19 more.

Italmatch, Colonial Chemicals to build in Saudi Arabia

Two Western players, Italy’s Italmatch Chemicals and Colonial Chemicals of the US, have recently signed investment plans that will see them manufacturing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) for the wider Gulf region. Terms were not disclosed in either case.

Together with Biolab Arabia, Genoa-based Italmatch has created a 60-40 joint venture called Italmatch Biolab Industrial. This will make performance additives for applications in water and process treatment, and the oil and gas sector, with a focus on thermal and membrane based desalination, at Al-Jubail.
