According to the latest annual report by brand valuation consultancy, Brand Finance, BASF is still the most valuable chemicals brand with a brand value of $9.2 billion 11% up on 2023, and a brand strength rating (BSR) of AAA-. It ranked fourth in the brand strength index with score of 80.7 of 100. This is the tenth consecutive year that BASF has topped the chemicals segment.
Exactly half of the 50 global brands assessed saw an increase in their brand values. These were mostly in Europe and North America. The Asia-Pacific African and Middle East markets underperformed “due to weakened exports and reduced foreign investments in China. However, brands in these regions displayed commendable resilience, capitalising on strong domestic demand and lower energy costs to maintain their growth trajectories,” Brand Finance said.
Other strong performers included Ineos, with a 23% growth in brand value, to $1.7 billion, a 1.7-point rise in BSI to 64.0 and a BSR of 64.9. Ineos also climbed from 21st to 15th ranking overall. DuPont also “remains a formidable player in the industry”, with a 1% increase in brand value to $1.9 billion.
Brand Finance’s Sustainability Perceptions Index, which is compiled by assessing the role of sustainability in driving brand consideration, also ranks BASF highest in the sector with a sustainability perceptions value of $773 million. Of those in the sector, Linde has the highest ‘positive gap value’ at $12 million. This is the amount Brand Finance believes that it generate in potential value through enhanced communication of its impact and accomplishments in sustainability.
