The Covid-19 pandemic, which had already led to the cancellation or postponement of multiple industry events scheduled for March and April, has now claimed two key events in Europe in late May.
Mack Brooks Exhibitions has postponed the 35th Chemspec Europe exhibition for fine and speciality chemicals from 27-28 May to 11-12 November. It will still take place at the Cologne Messe in Germany. This will be the first time it has even taken place out of its traditional slot in spring Managing director Nicola Hamann said:
“After closely monitoring the evolving situation around Covid-19 and the notices issued by the World Health Organisation, the advice from the German authorities regarding large scale gatherings and in close coordination with all partners involved, we have decided to postpone the exhibition.”
In the same light, the board of the European Chemical Distributors Association, FECC, unanimously voted to cancel the FECC Annual Congress 2020. This was scheduled for 27-29 May in Milan. Northern Italy has been one of the epicentres of the pandemic.
“Under the current, unprecedented circumstances, our top priority lies in ensuring the health of everyone involved in the event, and the developments of the coming months seem rather unpredictable,” FECC said. The congress will return to Milan at the end of May or early June 2021.
