Croda top for sustainability

Croda International has come first in the Most Sustainable International Company rankings for companies headquartered outside the US. Calvert Research and Management, a responsible investment management firm, carried these rankings out for financial news source Barron’s. It analysed more than 230 key performance indicators of environmental, social and governance performance.

This followed a month after EcoVadis had awarded Croda the new Platinum status. This places it among the top 1% of all companies in the chemical sector and of all the 75,000 companies assessed in 160 countries across 200 industries, with advanced corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices in three of the four categories of Environment, Labour & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement.

The methodology assesses how well a company has integrated the principles of sustainability and CSR into its business and management system. It is built on international sustainability standards, including the Global Reporting Initiative, the UN Global Compact and ISO 26000. Croda first achieved gold status in 2012. Also achieving Platinum Status this year was Thomas Swan & Co.

In the same week in early March, Croda joined the Together for Sustainability initiative for sustainable chemical supply chains, bringing the total membership to 30. Michelle Fargen, global head of procurement and sustainable sourcing said: “We will continue our work to understand industry best practices, moving us closer to fully sustainable, ethical and transparent supply chains and supplier partnerships.”
