Grace to expand South Haven

W. R. Grace & Co. has announced plans to expand its CDMO facility in South Haven, Michigan, by January 2024. It will add an 18 m3 multi-purpose glass-lined and stainless steel reactor train to two existing trains of the same size, as well as a Hastelloy centrifuge to facilitate product isolation.

The firm said that this will enable its Fine Chemical Manufacturing Services (FMCS) business to “support continued growth of its small molecule drug production including custom APIs, cGMP intermediates and generic APIs”. Grace originally acquired FMCS from Albemarle in June 2021, tripling its fine chemical business in the process.

“The additional capacity created through this project will enable our customers to develop critical drug therapies in areas such as oncology, diabetes, cardiovascular and anti-virals,” commented Sandra Wisniewski, president of Grace Materials Technologies.
