Heraeus Precious Metals and Sweden’s Hulteberg have agreed on a strategic partnership to jointly develop and commercialize a variety of catalysts that are required for the operation of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). These are said to represent a promising technology for the electrochemical conversion of hydrogen and fuels into electricity.
The portfolio will consist of catalysts for: (pre-)reforming of hydrocarbons; generation of syngas via catalytic partial oxidation; purification of syngas via water-gas-shift; preferential oxidation and selective methanation reactions to yield pure hydrogen; and tail-gas combustion. The two firms will jointly approach clients and projects in SOFCs and the hydrogen economy and commercialise new products tailored to their needs.
