ICIG buys Valtris European business
International Chemical Investors Group (ICIG), the owner of WeylChem and many other European chemical assets, has acquired the European Advanced Organics business of Valtris Specialty Chemicals. Terms were not disclosed. Valtris’s North American production of benzyl chloride at its Delaware River plant is not part of the deal.
The business has been renamed Vynova Advanced Organics and will be integrated into ICIG’s PVC and chlor-alkali platform, Vynova Group. The acquired firm’s product portfolio is based around chlorinated toluenes and derivatives, which are key chemical intermediates for applications like coatings, flavours and fragrances, personal care, agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals.
These are made at sites in Tessenderlo, Belgium, and Maastricht, Netherlands, where they and Vynova were once part of Tessenderlo Chemie and are already “strongly interlinked”. “This strategic acquisition allows us to achieve forward integration, incorporating the benzyl chloride and derivatives that are manufactured with the chlorine we produce into our product portfolio,” said Johan Van Den Broeck, EVP commercial at Vynova.
