Olon opens R&D centre

Italian CDMO Olon has opened its new R&D centre at its industrial plant and headquarters in Rodano, near Milan. This will be mainly dedicated to the development of APIs for the innovator and generic markets. It cost €10 million and will create 50 new jobs, bringing the total to 350 out of the 2,300 total.

Siegfried breaks ground on R&D centre

Siegfried has broke ground for its new global R&D centre for drug substances at its site in Evionnaz, Switzerland. The company is investing up to €23 million at the facility, which will begin operations in 2024 and host about 100 scientists, working alongside another R&D centre at the main site in Zofingen. The centre will host advanced chemical and analytical facilities and laboratories, offering chemical process R&D and analytical development services for the entire drug substances network, Siegfried said.

Seqens opens Boston R&D centre

French CDMO Seqens has opened its $5 million ‘Seqens Boston R&D Center’ in Devens, Massachusetts, in place of an older one. Covering 14,00 m2, this will be the North American flagship for its ten-strong global network of R&D centres, helping to take projects through all the stages of development to commercialisation.

Olon begins R&D centre

Italian CDMO Olon is to invest €10 million to create an R&D hub at its headquarters site at Rodano near Milan. This will integrate seven existing R&D centres and will be dedicated entirely to research laboratories to be used to develop APIs and manufacturing processes. 

Construction has started and is due to be completed in Q2 2023. This will also lead to about 50 new researchers being hired, bringing the corporate total to around 350.

Wacker opens US innovation centre

Wacker Chemie has opened its regional innovation centre at Ann Arbor, Michigan. The building covers 13,000 m2 on a 70,000 m2 site and will bring R&D in biotech and silicone under one roof in over 20 technical and analytical laboratories.

This will also be the headquarters of the Wacker subsidiary managing business activities in North and Central America. Some 50 employees will relocate there from another site Adrian, also in Michigan, where the company has produced silicones for over 50 years.

New R&D centre for Kemira

Kemira and its pension fund, Neliapila, have signed a pre-agreement and lease agreement with a consortium of Ahlström Capital, Kirkon Eläkerahasto and Aktia Life Insurance. Under this, they will build a new research centre for Kemira as part of the Green Chemistry Park within a 5.5-hectare site at Espoo, near Helsinki in Finland.

Atotech opens in China and India

Within the space of ten days in mid-March, Atotech announced that its new production site in China and its R&D centre are both fully operational. The company, which is based in Berlin, specialises in advanced electroplating. These developments bring its total network of sites to 17, including eight in Asia.
