Mexican buy for Pilot

US speciality chemicals firm Pilot Chemical of Cincinnati has acquired Órgano Síntesis (OSSA), which makes products for the personal care, disinfection, sanitising, cleaning, oil and gas, water treatment and general speciality chemicals industries. Terms were not disclosed.

Pilot said that this expands its business into the Mexican and wider Latin American market, giving growth opportunities for its existing surfactants and antimicrobial businesses. OSSA brings with it technology, a testing and research plant facility, FDA cGMP certification and R&D capabilities. OSSA, which like Pilot was privately owned, will retain its name, with Federico Soto remaining as director general. About 100 employees at the headquarters office in Mexico City and the production site in Toluca will transfer.

Pilot is mainly active in the disinfecting, sanitising and cleaning; metalworking and lubricants; oil field and emulsion polymerization industries. Core technologies involve sulfonation, in which it claims to have North America’s most advanced continous process, plus alkylation, sulfation and the production biocidal quats, tertiary amine derivatives, polymers and organometallic fuel additives.
