Lanxess enters battery chemistry

Lanxess has announced that it will be entering the battery chemistry business from 2022. It will produce electrolyte formulations for lithium-ion batteries for China’s Guangzhou Tinci Materials Technology using a plant operated by Saltigo in Germany. Further details were not disclosed.

Lanxess to buy Emerald Kalama

LanxessLanxess has signed a binding agreement to acquire Emerald Kalama Chemical from private equity firm American Securities for €867 million. The deal, which will be financed from existing liquidity, should be completed in Q2, subject to approval by the relevant authorities.

Lanxess pursues hygiene buy

Lanxess has entered into exclusive negotiations to acquire the Theseo Group. Subject to the usual French processes of consultation and regulatory approvals, this should be completed in mid-2021, the company said.

Based at Laval, France, Theseo mainly makes disinfection and hygiene products mainly for livestock farming in Europe and Latin America, particularly pigs and poultry. It is also active in water hygiene.

Further black pigment capacity for Lanxess

Lanxess has expanded its capacity for black synthetic iron oxide pigments at its Krefeld-Uerdingen site in Germany by over 5,000 tonnes/year. This is the world’s largest plant for these pigments.

The investment was made, according to Holger Hüppeler, head of the Inorganic Pigments business unit, because of growing demand from the construction industry, which is increasingly using black pigments to colour concrete. The Bayferrox 330 and 340 grades are widely used in concrete paving stones and roof tiles, and in architecture.

Lanxess plans oxone monopersulfate expansion

Lanxess has announced plans to invest “a lower double-digit million euro sum” in order to expand oxone monopersulfate capacity at its site in Memphis, Tennessee, by 50% by the end of 2022. This comes in response to “continuous strong demand for disinfectants”, the company said.

Lanxess realigns in water treatment

Lanxess has announced that it is focusing its water treatment technologies business on the ion exchange (IX) resins business and will build a new plant. As a result, it is selling its reverse osmosis (RO) membranes business to Suez of France, on undisclosed terms. This should be concluded within 2020.
