Evotec buys Central Glass Germany

Evotec has bought the German manufacturing operations of Japan’s Central Glass for a nominal €1. The deal is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close on 1 November. The business will be renamed Evotec Drug Substance (Germany).

Platinum-based API line running

Heraeus Pharmaceutical Ingredients (HPI) has announced that its new production line for platinum-based pharmaceutical ingredients at its headquarters in Hanau, Germany, is now running at full speed and customers have already received the first deliveries of APIs. The company launched the project in late 2018 in response to growing demand for oncology drugs and imminent shortages. HPI, a business line of Heraeus Precious Metals, is world’s largest supplier of platinum-based HPAPIs, which are used in numerous therapies, notably lung, colorectal, ovarian and testicular cancer.

Evonik in green hydrogen alliance

Evonik is among the seven companies with operations in Germany that have launched the GET H2 alliance, which says that it “aims to create the basis of a European infrastructure for green hydrogen” by 2024. The others are BP, Nowega, OGE, RWE, Salzgitter Flachstahl and Thyssengas.

Germany: Associations reject industry closure idea

The German Chemical Industry Association (VCI) and the German Chemical Employers' Association (BAVC) have joined forces to “vehemently reject” calls for a three-week shutdown for the chemical-pharmaceutical industry. This has been suggested as part of a nationwide ‘hard lockdown’ to fight the rapid growth in COVID-19 infection.

VCI calls for digital support

The VCI has issued a three-point wish-list for how the public policy framework can help to shape the forthcoming digital transformation of the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, so that they can better position themselves to be part of the process.
